The CLIMASAFE project focuses on supporting energy-intensive SMEs in the cross-border area of Italy and Slovenia in tackling increasingly frequent extreme climate events. Through the development of a climate risk index and a digital platform, the project enables SMEs to identify their vulnerabilities and design tailored strategies to increase resilience.
The objective is to enhance competitiveness and sustainable growth in the border region through joint solutions based on cross-border cooperation, innovation, and strategic planning.
Environmental Added Value:
- Joint solutions for addressing extreme weather events (heatwaves, floods, frost) on both sides of the border
- Practical tools for companies that can be replicated in other regions
- Exchange of knowledge and experience between Slovenian and Italian partners
- Strengthening cross-border cooperation between businesses and institutions
- Creation of a shared strategy for long-term climate adaptation
- Consideration of multilingualism and the specific needs of the cross-border area
Concrete Activities:
- Collecting and analysing data on climate risks (heatwaves, frost, floods) and the vulnerability of energy-intensive SMEs
- Developing a climate risk index to show companies their exposure and where adaptation is needed
- Creating a digital platform offering companies tailored solutions and recommendations for managing weather-related risks
- Pilot actions in collaboration with companies to test solutions in real-world settings
- Developing a joint cross-border strategy with guidelines for SMEs and other stakeholders
- Organising trainings and workshops to enable companies and users to independently use the developed tools
- Promoting and disseminating project results through events, communication channels, and SME networks
